INSTRUCTIONS

The assignments in this online environment make the students think about time travel, the end of time, and also our relationship to the Earth. The students start in the CHOICE MENU and select EXPLORE or ENGAGE.

The EXPLORE phase assignments can be used to prepare for the workshop visit and VR Time Machine. The assignment of the ENGAGE phase is a reflection and feedback of the visit.

EXPLORE

The students start with an introduction to NEXT NATURE and time travel. They can then work in various fields during DEEP DIVE. The lessons of the EXPLORE phase last an average of 100 minutes and can be extended if desired.

ENGAGE

The lessons of the ENGAGE phase last on average 50 minutes and can be explored in one of the courses. A choice can be made by the teacher on assignment, or the students can make this choice themselves. The assignment can be worked out independently, in pairs or in fours.

An explanation for each part is described below.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

COURSE MATERIAL

INTRODUCTION

This part can be done in class, individually or in pairs at one of the subject lessons chosen at the Deep Dive. The video and the text about the explanation of NEXT NATURE can be viewed by students both in class and individually. This part can also be given as homework.

TIME TRAVEL

This part can be done in class, individually or in pairs at one of the subject lessons chosen at the Deep Dive. During the Time Travel section, students look at examples from pop culture.

We see an image of Back to the Future, Loki and Dr. Marvel's Strange, which jumps to both the past and future. The cartoon Meet the Robinsons is also about a journey to the future and the Timeless series, which travels to the past to maintain the timeline. Royal Club commercials use time travel.

DEEP DIVE

During the Deep Dive, students can work in different fields. Lessons can be offered interdisciplinary or students can immerse themselves in one field. The assignments are described in detail and can be adapted to the level of the students. Students can work independently, in pairs or in fours.

EXPLORE SCIENCE

Students individually, in pairs or in fours create an infographic about the future of our solar system. Students explore what a Dyson Sphere is and investigate one of three scenarios: the Big Freeze, the Big Rip, of the Big Crunch.

The elaboration of the infographic can be done digitally in a PowerPoint, or with a simple website, but also in print by means of a drawing, or collage.

Examples of infographics can be found here. Optionally use this printable for the students. The inspirational videos and articles can be viewed as a class or students can view them individually. This could also be given as a homework assignment.

EXPLORE ART

Students create a work of art with the theme of time travel. Time travel can go in all directions, to the future, but also to the past. They can think about the consequences of time travel, but also about the opportunities that time travel can offer.

Students shape their personal experience of time travel. The artworks can have all kinds of effects, such as a performance, rap, but also a collage, painting or video. You can give students the freedom to make their own choice in the discipline or give a choice in advance.

Use this printable for the students. The inspiration videos and articles can be viewed as a class, or students view them individually. This could also be entered as a homework assignment.

EXPLORE PHILOSOPHY

Students will think about the effect of their presence on the future. Do they have an impact? And what is that impact on planet Earth? What would they hope for the future of the Earth? They can write their speech, but also film, animation, rap or song.

Use this printable for the students. The inspiration videos and articles can be viewed as a class, or students view them individually. This could also be entered as a homework assignment.

ENGAGE

During the ENGAGE assignment, the students reflect on their research during the EXPLORE phase, but also process their experience during the VR Time Machine and the accompanying workshop. This assignment within one of the disciplines will be explored.
